The Newark campus is committed to providing a safe environment for students, faculty staff and visitors. Report crimes or suspicious activity by dialing 740-366-9237. The Newark Campus Public Safety Department works closely with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies regarding the reporting and investigation of crime. University security works in conjunction with Newark Police Department through a mutual aid agreement. We encourage accurate and prompt reporting of all crimes to the appropriate agency.

You are the first line of defense, the eyes and ears watching out for the safety of Ohio State. All of us must take responsibility for our own safety and assist those around us. See something, say something! Report the unusual or suspicious by dialing 9-1-1. Please report power outages to maintenance (740-366-9363) or Security (740-366-9237).

Campus Escort Service

The Newark Campus Safety Escort Program is for students, faculty or staff feeling unsafe walking alone. A campus security officer will accompany you and ensure that you are protected to your destination on campus. Arrangements can be made in advance or on the spot. From a campus phone, dial 6-9237 to contact one of our officers. From a public phone, call 366-9237. The service is provided 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

How to Respond to an Active Aggressor Situation

Finding yourself in an active aggressor situation can cause extreme panic and disorientation. But if you know what to do ahead of time, your chances of surviving this type of emergency situation are greatly increased. Learn more.

Additional Safety Resources

The OASIS Program provides pamphlets and information regarding rape education, safety tips and personal security. During each quarter, open forums are scheduled for the above items to make all students aware of their availability. In addition, each subject matter will be submitted to the Newark Campus: "This Week in Student Life" publication.

Sexual Offenders are required to notify the sheriff of the county in which they will reside in accordance with the Ohio Revised Code, Section 2950.04.

Background Checks/Fingerprinting Services
These services are available to Ohio State Newark and Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) students (or perspective COTC students applying for specific academic programs). Background checks cost $60.00. Individual requesting these services must stop by Fees & Deposits, pay the $20.00 and return to the Public Safety office with the receipt and a valid driver's license or state ID. Background checks are conducted between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Call 740-366-9237 for more information.

Engraving Personnel Property
Students and staff wishing to mark property such as calculators, laptops, cameras, etc., may utilize an electric engraver available at the Public Safety office in the Warner Center, room 105 or call 740-366-9237 for additional information.

Lockers
Lockers may be rented from the Recreation Sports during the year for individuals to secure their belongings.
