Learn About Careers in Heavy Equipment Operations

​NEWARK, Ohio, Nov. 8, 2017 – Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) will host a career information session for its heavy equipment operation technology associate degree and one-year certificate programs on Friday, Nov. 17, 10 a.m. - noon. The session will begin at COTC’s Pataskala campus, 8660 E. Broad, St., Reynoldsburg, and then move to COTC’s partner location, Performance Training Solutions (PTS), 7791 Taylor Station Road SW, Reynoldsburg. COTC’s heavy equipment training program awards a core curriculum for Heavy Equipment Operator Level One, Two and Three credential from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER); a 10-hour Occupational Safety and Health Administration construction safety and health certificate; a SafeLand basic orientation certificate (ID card) for the oil and gas industry, and CPR/first aid certification. The program offers a combination of classroom and hands-on operation of all heavy equipment common to construction sites, providing the fundamental skills and knowledge necessary to obtain employment in multiple industries where heavy equipment operators are employed. PTS is accredited by NCCER and is licensed by the Ohio State Board of Career Colleges and Schools.

Hands-on training prepares program graduates for challenging, in-demand careers in a variety of industries that require heavy equipment operators. Opportunities include, but are not limited to: ​commercial, residential and industrial construction; highway/bridge construction; state department of transportation; dams and levees; utilities – gas, water, sewer and electric; mining/quarry; timber/logging; landscaping; recycling/waste management/scrap; railroad; soil shale/oil sands, pipeline; and terminal operations.​
