12 teams will compete in the toothpick bridge challenge!
The objective of the toothpick bridge challenge is to design the most efficient, economical, functional and aesthetic bridge using only toothpicks and glue. Teams will be judged by a panel of industry experts for unique prizes. Awards include a glass-blown trophy handmade at the glass studio at The Works: Ohio Center for History, Art & Technology. Each winning team member will also receive a $1,000 scholarship to attend COTC.
The public is invited to watch and/or tour the
manufacturing engineering technology labs in Ariel Hall.
Hands-on engineering technology activities for children will be available and there will be 3-D printing.
In its second year, STEMfest!® Knox represents a notable partnership among colleges. Kenyon College and Mount Vernon Nazarene University are also hosting challenges. Additional sponsors include SPI Spot and The Works: Ohio Center for History, Art & Technology with generous support from Ariel Corporation, Griffin Insurance, Siemens, Brenneman Lumber Co., Community Foundation of Mount Vernon & Knox County, First-Knox National Bank, Knox Community Hospital and Mount Vernon Rotary Foundation.
