Late Richard Corbett Honored by Central Ohio Technical College

NEWARK, Ohio, Dec. 17, 2018 – Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) has posthumously honored the late Richard Corbett of Coshocton with a 2018 Legends of Loyalty award. Corbett's wife, Judy, accepted the award from COTC President Bonnie L. Coe, Ph.D., on behalf of her late husband. Established in 2011, the Legends of Loyalty award recognizes those rare individuals who have made a significant impact on the history of the college through their selfless service and unwavering spirit. Legends of Loyalty recipients are added to a perpetual plaque that hangs in the Office of the President. A $1,000 scholarship is given to a COTC student in honor of each recipient.

ImageCorbett was a member of Coshocton's Montgomery Foundation Board of Directors from 1984 until 2015; he served as president of the board from 2000 to 2015. A longtime supporter of the college, he championed COTC's interest in acquiring the empty Roscoe Village Inn for its Coshocton campus. Under his leadership, the Montgomery Foundation provided a generous lead gift for the building's renovation. After a highly successful $5.5 million fundraising campaign, COTC's newly renovated Coshocton campus – aptly named Montgomery Hall – opened in January 2008.

Corbett, who died in 2015, was recognized as a leader who held tremendous respect and affection for Coshocton, its heritage and residents.

"COTC is better because of Dick's loyal friendship and unwavering support," said Coe during the ceremony. Also referencing comments from David Brillhart, COTC vice president for business and finance, Coe added, "Dick was able to carry the interests of education with the mission of the Roscoe Village Foundation and truly seek the best long-term interests of both parties."

Five additional 2018 Legends of Loyalty honorees were recognized by Coe this autumn: COTC Board Chair John F. Hinderer, former COTC Board Chair Cheryl Snyder, COTC/Ohio State Newark Building Maintenance Superintendent Dave Mettler, COTC Board Member Emeritus Sarah Reese Wallace and President and CEO of Ariel Corporation Karen Buchwald Wright.

COTC is a fully accredited, public college dedicated to providing high quality, accessible programs of technical education in response to current and emerging employment needs. COTC is the only technical college in Ohio operating four full-service campus locations: Newark, Coshocton, Knox and Pataskala.
