Medical Conference: Clinical Updates: A Community Perspective on Global Diseases

This full day conference will include four key presentations.

  1. Ebolla, SARS, and MERS:  Oh my!
  2. Speckles & Spots:  Infectious diseases in the pediatric population
  3. Dr. Jim O'Brien – an ICU physician, formerly with OSU and now with Ohio Health; and Chairman of the Sepsis Alliance ​Board of Directors, will speak on the topic of sepsis.
  4. A global presentation on the role of the healthcare worker and emerging issues ​

Featured speaker Dr. Jim O'Brien of the Sepsis Alliance will present current information on sepsis and septic shock.  Sepsis is a potentially life-threatening complication of an infection. It occurs when chemicals released into the bloodstream to fight the infection trigger inflammatory responses throughout the body. This inflammation can end up damaging multiple organ systems, causing them to fail. 

The one- day conference will also provide an overview of communicable diseases in both the adult and pediatric populations. Community response to global and regional disease will also be discussed. The event will conclude with a session on surveillance and emerging diseases/pathogens that pose a threat to the public's health today and in the future.

The conference is open to nurse educators, nursing students, nurses and/or physicians and EMS personnel, or others interested in this topic. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) will be offered for attending the conference.​

Registration is required. Registration deadline is February 19. 
The fee is $90.00 and includes, breakfast, lunch, refreshment breaks and learning materials.
