Engineering Technology Scholarships Available at COTC

NEWARK, Ohio, May 17, 2017 —Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) is awarding 40 scholarships, each valued at half of the annual tuition cost, to new students who enroll in an engineering technology degree this autumn semester.

"This is a win-win situation for students and employers in central Ohio. Employers in the region need engineering technicians to fill positions they have available," said Professor Whit Tussing. "This is a thriving career field, and COTC graduates are finding high-paying, quality jobs quickly because employers know the kind of qualified graduate the college produces. We're offering this scholarship to help students get the degree they need to get a great job."

According to data from the Ohio Education Research Center, the Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System and the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, 79% of COTC engineering technology associate degree graduates were found employed in Ohio nine months after graduation between 2008 and 2013. State data also shows that 92% of COTC manufacturing engineering technology and civil engineering technology graduates were employed in Ohio nine months after graduation.

The college admission application serves as the student's application for this scholarship. The student must indicate a major choice in one of the engineering technology programs. Qualifying majors include architectural engineering technology, civil engineering technology, electrical engineering technology, mechanical engineering technology and manufacturing engineering technology. The free admission application is available online at

For full-time students, the value of the scholarship is $2,200 and will be applied to autumn 2017 and spring 2018 tuition; part-time students receive a prorated amount. Scholarships will be awarded to 40 students who demonstrate academic achievement through a high school or college grade point average of 2.00 or higher, documented on transcripts submitted with the admission application. The scholarships will be awarded on a first come, first served basis. Autumn semester classes begin Aug. 22, 2017.
