COTC and C-TEC Team Up to Offer English as a Second Language Course in Pataskala

Pataskala, Ohio, October 15, 2015 — Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) students and members of the community have the opportunity to take English as a Second Language (ESL) for free this fall at the COTC Pataskala campus located at 8660 E. Broad St.  The course is being offered through a partnership between COTC and Career and Technology Education Centers (C-TEC) of Licking County.

"There is a strong need in the Pataskala area for this course," said C-TEC Adult and Basic Literacy Education Coordinator Erin Wheeler. The last time the ESL course was offered was two years ago.  "There are many potential students from west and east Africa who are working in the beauty and personal services industry in what's known as the beauty park in New Albany. Taking this course at a smaller facility like COTC's Pataskala campus is great. The location is ideal, and it takes the intimidation out of it."

The mission of C-TEC is to promote workforce development in Licking County by offering leading-edge educational programs that provide learners academic and technical skills needed for career opportunities and continuous learning.

"COTC is committed to offering student support services and with a diverse and multilingual student population at the Pataskala campus, we are pleased to be able to partner with C-TEC and offer this course," said COTC Vice President for Extended Campuses and The Gateway Teri Holder. "The mission of our extended campuses is to provide access to educational opportunities throughout central Ohio that meet the needs of communities, and this is a wonderful example of that."

The course is taught by certified instructors and offered at no cost to the students on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. beginning November 3.  For registration information contact Erin Wheeler at 740-364-2263.
