COTC Presented Appreciation Plaque from Women Walking West

NEWARK, Ohio, November 14, 2016 – Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) is being recognized for its support of the organization Women Walking West. President Bonnie L. Coe, Ph.D. was recently given an appreciation plaque to acknowledge the college's commitment to the organization.

"This award means a lot to me and Central Ohio Technical College because Women Walking West is doing so much to help its recipients succeed," said Coe.

Women Walking West was established in January 2015 to help foreign-born women who legally come to America achieve their educational goals. The founder of the organization is Dr. George Sehi.

"We wanted to recognize COTC with this plaque because the college has made a financial commitment to Women Walking West to support its vision for supporting foreign-born women who live in the United States legally achieve their educational goals," said Sehi.

Two COTC students have been awarded scholarships from Women Walking West in the past year.

Sehi believes the scholarship support is crucial. He came to the U.S. in 1975 from Iran to get an education. Sehi had struggles himself, but believes that women coming from Third World countries are at a greater disadvantage than men.

"I never forgot the challenges students face, especially foreign students, as they try to navigate through the system," said Sehi.

Sehi is now the senior consultant for COTC and recently assisted the college in its efforts to get some of its engineering technology programs internationally accredited by the Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ETAC/ABET).

Central Ohio Technical College opened in 1971 and is celebrating its 45th anniversary in 2016. COTC is a fully accredited, public college dedicated to providing high-quality, accessible programs of technical education in response to current and emerging employment needs, as well as encouraging the professional development of students, staff, faculty and administrators to assist them in achieving their maximum potential.  COTC is the only technical college in Ohio operating four full-service campus locations: Newark, Coshocton, Knox and Pataskala.
