NEWARK, Ohio, February 4, 2020 — Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) will hold information sessions for anyone interested in becoming a peace officer in Ohio. The next peace officer basic training (POBT) academy begins May 11 and runs until October 9 at COTC's Newark campus. Classes are typically held Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Attending a session is mandatory for anyone interested in applying to the program. Information sessions will be held in Hopewell Hall room 53 on the following dates:
- Monday, March 2, at 10 a.m.
- Thursday, March 5, at 2 p.m.
- Wednesday, March 18, at 2 p.m.
COTC's POBT exceeds the requirements of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission and positions students to excel on the state certification exam. COTC is the second-highest scoring open enrollment academy in the state. Graduates also earn credits toward an associate degree in law enforcement technology.
