NEWARK, Ohio, March 19, 2019 — The culinary science technology associate degree program at Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) received accreditation from the Accrediting Commission of the American Culinary Federation Education Foundation (ACFEF). Accreditation distinguishes COTC's culinary science technology program and demonstrates that students receive the knowledge and skills to be successful in today's culinary industry.
Through the accreditation process, COTC completed an intense self-study that was reviewed by industry professionals and educators, said Culinary Science Program Director Matt Russo. Evaluating the program in many different areas, COTC was able to use the information attained from the study to verify students are taught to a high-quality standard and developed to a high level of professionalism.
"ACFEF accreditation is a great measure of integrity and quality for our program," said Russo. "We provide students with the knowledge and training that can be used to get a good job in the restaurant or hospitality industry and succeed. Our program also provides students with an understanding of the science needed to continue on with a bachelor's degree, opening the door to research and development."
The culinary science technology program is designed to provide skills and experiences for those who are interested in culinary careers including work in research and development. COTC offers the only culinary science program in the state. Students can choose two different academic paths by either pursuing an Associate of Applied Science in Culinary Science Technology or a One-Year Certificate in Culinary Science.
