After careful deliberation and with a deep sense of responsibility for the well-being of our community, Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) and The Ohio State University at Newark announce that the 2020 Independence Day concert and fireworks event at the shared Newark campus has been cancelled. The annual family-friendly event, jointly sponsored by COTC, Ohio State Newark and the Gilbert Reese Family Foundation, has been a long-standing free gift to the community. The annual COTC and Ohio State Newark alumni celebrations held in conjunction with the event have also been cancelled.
The annual Independence Day Concert and Fireworks display is held annually on July 3rd, on the campus of The Ohio State University at Newark and Central Ohio Technical College.
Approximately 25,000 Licking County children and families attend this fun, free, family friendly event annually. The evening’s celebration begins with popular local musical groups with all performances held at the Martha Grace Reese Amphitheatre. Of course, the crowd-favorite fireworks display begins at dusk to the accompaniment of patriotic favorites performed by the symphony.
Independence Day Alumni Celebration
The Annual Independence Day Alumni Celebration held simultaneously with the public fireworks event takes place in the John Gilbert Reese Center and seating area around the building (inside and outside) is reserved for COTC and Ohio State Alumni and their guests. Bring lawn chairs and blankets to use outside. Fireworks begin at dusk. This event has been cancelled.
We appreciate everyone who has supported this event in past years.
We are especially grateful to The Reese Family Foundation, COTC and Ohio State Newark for making this one-of-a-kind community event possible.
