Peace Officer Basic Training

Serve Your Community

Make a difference in your community with a career in law enforcement. COTC's Peace Officer Basic Training (POBT) program exceeds the requirements of the Ohio Peace Officer Training Commission requirements and positions students to excel at the state certification exam.  Students will participate in over 790  hours of training.

Benefits of the Program:

  • Two schedule tracks to help you reach your goal of completion.
  • Graduates of the Peace Officer Basic Training (POBT) program will earn college credits which can be applied toward an Associate of Applied Science in Law Enforcement Technology (LET).
  • POBT is also offered as part of the curriculum for the Law Enforcement Technology degree program.
Working in the area of law enforcement can be difficult and challenging; however, it presents a rewarding and diverse career selection. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics the median annual wage of police officers and detectives was $55,010. Central Ohio Technical College’s Peace Officer Basic Training program helps you take the next step for your future.

Students enrolled in the Accelerated POBT academy while pursuing the Law Enforcement Degree Program are eligible for financial aid.

Short-term Certificate Grant

The Peace Officer Basic Training (POBT) Certificate is eligible for the short-term certificate grant available to students with demonstrated financial need as well as students who are currently in or exiting foster care. Each student may receive a one-time grant of up to $2,000 to assist with tuition and fees (does not include the cost of books and supplies). To be considered, students must submit and satisfy the requirements on the Short-term Certificate Grant Application or the Short-term Certificate Foster Youth Grant Application.
